Clockwork Clownshow

Clockwork Clownshow is a 2D melee-focused roguelike action prototype set in Rathgear, an industrial town west of Dublin, Ireland.

You play as Edmund Brassard, the son of Seamus Brassard, a brilliant mechanical engineer whose autonomous robot performers turned Rathgear’s circus into an international attraction. But when Seamus disappears and the Clockwork Clownshow goes haywire, the town is overrun by malfunctioning robot clowns.

The mayor begs Edmund for help. Annoyed but determined, Edmund puts down his pint, picks up his monkey wrench, and heads into the circus to find his father and smash down the mechanical chaos.

Our Game Culture & Design Philosophy

We were inspired by Risk of Rain 1, Devil May Cry, and DOOM Eternal. We were influenced by action-game culture built around pressure as flow, and repetition as mastery. Our game is unique in combining these elements and framing the chaos through a steampunk circus setting.

Prototype Note

Created for the Remaking Reality class at the University of Melbourne, Semester 1, 2026. For many of us, this is our first game development project.
